Matt Tumlinson

Matt Tumlinson grew up between a feed store and a fence line, and he has never quite left either. His murals are crowded with the people most Texas postcards leave out — the shearer mid-stroke, the river guide reading the water, the grandmother who knows which plants stop bleeding.

For Legends of the Land he is painting the festival's largest wall: a forty-foot story of the Frio told from the riverbed up. He works in the open, on a scaffold, and he likes an audience. Pull up a chair.
